Case of the Month

January 2003

Henry presented for vomiting and sitting in a hunched position. The owner had observed him eating ribbon from a balloon. He had done this once before and had to have emergency surgery to remove it. On Xray, there appeared to be something sitting in the stomach.

He was anesthetized and the endoscope was advanced through the esophagus into the stomach.

Ribbon seen in the stomach.

Ribbon being retrieved through the esophagus.

The ribbon!

Henry was released several hours later no worse for the ordeal.
